Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has commiserated with family of the late Maj. Gen. Godwin Abbe (rtd), a former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.
Gen. Abbe was governor of Rivers State from 1990 -1992 before Bayelsa State was carved out on October 1, 1996. He was also the minister of interior and later minister of defence from 1988 -1992.
Gov. Diri in a statement by his spokesperson on Wednesday, described the late Gen. Abbe as a consummate and professional military officer that was committed to the service of his fatherland.

“His passing is a loss not only to his family, his community and Edo State but also the country given his track record of dedicated and selfless pursuit of a greater and united Nigeria.
“Gen. Abbe was noted for his brilliance and upholding of the highest traditions of the armed forces, while protecting the territorial integrity of our country,” the governor said.
The Bayelsa governor, in expressing the sympathies of the government and people of the state, urged the Abbe family to be comforted by his shining legacies of integrity and patriotism as well as his contributions to national development.
