Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, has criticised the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, labeling him a “transactional politician” who betrays the very platform that elevated him.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor responded to what he described as Wike’s bombastic and contradictory remarks during a recent media appearance.
Gov. Mohammed condemned Wike for undermining the PDP, the political platform that fostered his rise. He also accused Wike of adopting a self-serving, opportunistic approach to politics, prioritizing personal ambitions over loyalty and collective interests.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” the statement read.
The governor dismissed Wike’s claims about the absence of personal friendship between the two leaders, emphasising that governance is built on competence and results, not personal relationships.
Gov. Mohammed highlighted his own achievements in Bauchi State and his role in strengthening the PDP, contrasting this with Wike’s “double game” of aligning with both the PDP and the APC for personal gain.
“Governance is not built on personal friendships but on competence, vision, and the ability to deliver results,” he added and criticised Wike’s dual loyalty, accusing him of hypocrisy in his criticism of PDP leaders, while openly supporting the APC government.

He noted that Wike’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his advocacy for the APC’s re-election in 2027 contradict his purported loyalty to the PDP.
“Wike’s shameless oscillation between the PDP and APC undermines the moral fabric of democracy,” the statement asserted.
The Bauchi governor described Wike’s tenure as FCT minister as being marked by public spectacle and divisiveness rather than effective governance.
“Wike’s combative and erratic leadership style has alienated stakeholders and created unnecessary tension.
“Instead of using his platform to unite and inspire, Wike has reduced public service to a theater of absurdity,” he stated, adding that even APC members are reportedly displeased with Wike’s antics.
In contrast to Wike, the governor portrayed himself as a leader of integrity and substance, committed to uplifting Bauchi State and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
He emphasised his principled stance on national issues, including his opposition to President Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, which he argued were aimed at ensuring inclusive governance and accountability.
Gov. Mohammed urged Nigerians to see through Wike’s duplicity, describing him as a political mercenary driven by personal ambition.
“Wike’s antics may grab headlines, but they offer little substance. His betrayal of the PDP and divisive politics reveal a man prioritising personal gain over public service,” the statement concluded.
