Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on residents of the state to act as whistleblowers by promptly reporting individuals and outlets involved in the sale of fake and substandard drugs, warning that the activities of such dealers pose grave risks to public health.
Gov. Adeleke made the call during a courtesy visit by the Osun State Coordinator of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Stephen Aina, and his team at the Government House in Osogbo.
The governor stressed that the fight against counterfeit drugs requires collective responsibility, urging NAFDAC officials to carry out their duties with diligence, transparency, and without compromise or inducement.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Gov. Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with NAFDAC to rid Osun State of fake drugs and other substandard products.
He described the visit as timely, congratulating Aina on his appointment and underscoring the importance of collaboration between federal regulatory agencies and state governments.
“Activities of NAFDAC remain critical to public health, consumer protection, and economic stability, particularly in addressing the growing menace of fake drugs, substandard food items, and unregulated consumables that pose serious risks to lives and undermine confidence in the healthcare system,” the governor said.

While commending NAFDAC’s ongoing enforcement and public sensitisation efforts, the governor noted that effective regulation cannot be achieved in isolation.
“It requires strong cooperation, intelligence sharing, and engagement with security agencies and local communities,” he added.
Gov. Adeleke also acknowledged NAFDAC’s request to be included in the Osun State Security Council, saying the proposal would be carefully examined within the existing framework to enhance coordination and effectiveness, given the link between public safety and regulatory oversight.
Earlier, the Osun NAFDAC Coordinator, Stephen Aina, said the agency remained committed to ensuring that only safe and standard products are consumed by Nigerians. He commended the state government for maintaining a peaceful environment, which he said has aided NAFDAC’s operations.
Aina disclosed that the agency has been carrying out outreach programmes targeted at youths, encouraging entrepreneurship while advising business owners to register their enterprises in line with the law.
