Concerned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Gombe State have urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to leave active politics and instead take up an advisory role to help steer the PDP towards a more inclusive and youth-driven future.
Addressing journalists at a press conference held in Gombe on Thursday, the Chairman of the group, Jamilu Adamu, praised Atiku’s long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and his pivotal role within the PDP.
Describing him as a “respected statesman with a notable legacy,” Adamu emphasised that Atiku’s experience remains invaluable, but should now be channeled into mentoring and guiding the next generation of PDP leaders.
“We believe that Atiku Abubakar’s experience and wisdom can still benefit the PDP if channeled into mentoring and supporting emerging leaders,” Adamu said.
He clarified that the call is not a criticism of the former vice president, but a constructive suggestion aimed at fostering a strategic repositioning of the party.

According to him, generational renewal is essential for the PDP to remain relevant and effective in Nigeria’s ever-evolving political landscape.
“The PDP must embrace fresh perspectives and give younger voices a central role in shaping party decisions,” he stated, urging party leadership to open up spaces for youths to meaningfully participate in decision-making and leadership.
While reaffirming the group’s loyalty to the party, Adamu called on stakeholders across all levels to unite and push for a more dynamic and forward-thinking PDP capable of addressing the nation’s growing challenges.
“We are hopeful that our message will be received in the spirit of progress and dialogue,” he concluded.
The statement, at the time of filing this report, have begun to sparked conversations within party circles and among political observers about the future direction of the PDP and the broader need for generational inclusiveness in Nigerian politics.
