Gombe partners AFREXIM Bank on funding key projects

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has initiated discussions with the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM Bank) to secure funding for critical development projects aimed at advancing the state’s industrial and economic landscape.

The high-level meeting held at AFREXIM Bank’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, was attended by the bank’s President, Benedict Oramah, alongside top executives, including Executive Vice President for Africa Trade and Export Development, Mrs. Kanayo Awani.

A statement issued out to journalists in Gombe, by the governor’s spokesperson, Ismaila Misilli, the state government revealed that discussions at the meeting focused on financing key infrastructure projects such as the 100MW solar power initiative, the canalization of the Wawa-Zange Grazing Reserve, and the Balanga Dam and Irrigation project.

These initiatives the government said in the statement are expected to strengthen energy security, boost agricultural productivity and diversify the state’s economy.

The governor was said to have presented Gombe State’s investment potentials and outlined his administration’s vision to transform the state into a hub for industrial and economic activities.

Also, he emphasized the transformative impact of the proposed projects, in addressing development challenges and enhancing the state’s competitiveness.

The statement added that Oramah praised Gov. Yahaya’s proactive approach to development, noting that the proposed projects align with the AFREXIM Bank’s mission to foster trade and economic growth across Africa.

He expressed the bank’s readiness to support the projects, underscoring their potential to drive sustainable development in Gombe State.

Mrs. Awani also commended the governor’s visionary leadership and reiterated AFREXIM Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to bring the projects to reality.
