Gombe State and MABON Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the Dadinkowa Hydropower Project, to extend power supply to the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park and drive economic growth across the state.

During a high-level meeting at the office of the deputy governor, Richard Madubunyi, CEO of MABON Limited, led a delegation that included Chief Operating Officer Alhaji Umar Hashidu and representatives of Power China the plant’s operation and maintenance partners, to discuss strategies for scaling up electricity generation and integrating renewable energy sources.

MABON, which holds the concession for the Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant since 2005, has so far generated 650 megawatts of electricity, with plans to add 200 more and integrate solar components for hybrid generation.

Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau praised MABON’s long-standing contribution to Gombe’s energy supply, especially during power shortages in the North-East, and stressed the urgent need for expanded electricity to meet the growing demands of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park.

He noted that although 1,000 hectares were allocated for the park, only one-third has been developed, largely due to inadequate power supply.

“Our government has already invested over ₦22 billion in roads and water infrastructure at the park. Power remains the critical missing link,” he said.

“We are calling on MABON to fast-track their expansion efforts. Several investors are ready to move in as soon as reliable electricity is guaranteed.”

He also appealed for MABON’s support in resolving water supply issues in the state capital, citing the high cost and inefficiency of the current water distribution system.

Commissioners Alhaji Sanusi Pindiga (Energy and Solid Minerals Development), Alhaji Nasiru Aliyu Mohammed (Trade, Industry, and Tourism), and the Interim Chairman of the Industrial Park, Alhaji Nuhu Bashir, all stressed the importance of accelerating power development to meet investor expectations.

In response, MABON’s duo of Madubunyi and Alhaji Hashidu reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the state’s development agenda.

They requested land within the 1,000-hectare park to install a solar plant that would complement the hydropower project and pledged to deliver on their targets with adequate government support.

The renewed collaboration is expected to transform Gombe State’s energy landscape, strengthen its industrial sector, and unlock new investment and employment opportunities.
