In a major push to strengthen healthcare delivery across Gombe State, has commissioned 114 revitalised primary health care facilities at a ceremony held at the Akko Primary Health Center.
Representing Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau, described the project as a demonstration of the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of its citizens.
“To God be the glory for granting us the privilege to witness this moment, which pertains to our health the foundation of all human activity,” he said, conveying the governor’s greetings and appreciation to attendees.
Since assuming office in 2019, Gov. Yahaya’s administration, according to the deputy, has recorded notable achievements in healthcare.
The state, as made known by him, has increased its healthcare budget from 3.5% to 15%, aligning with the Abuja Declaration on health funding.
He also cited the establishment of the Gombe State Contributory Health Agency now serving over 300,000 beneficiaries and improved drug distribution through the state’s drug management agency.
Dr. Jatau revealed that a total of 103 primary health centres s and 66 additional health clinics have been revitalised with support from the World Bank-backed IMPACT project.
The upgraded facilities are now equipped with solar power, clean water, essential medical equipment, and staff quarters.
“As we commission these facilities, I urge our communities to take ownership and ensure their long-term sustainability,” the governor said.
Gombe State’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. The World Bank has ranked the state first in prudent use of resources and quality infrastructure delivery under the IMPACT project.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, highlighted the revitalisation effort as part of a broader strategy to tackle critical health challenges, particularly in maternal health, malnutrition, and zero-dose vaccination.
