Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has pledged support for the demand by stakeholders from Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area to produce the next senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District in 2027.

The governor made the commitment while receiving a delegation from the area at the Government House in Gombe.

The delegation included traditional rulers, political figures across party lines, technocrats, as well as representatives of youth and women groups.

The visit was aimed at seeking the governor’s backing for what the group described as a quest for equitable representation in the senatorial district.

Responding to the request, Yahaya assured the delegation that their appeal would be given due consideration, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity.

“I will take the necessary steps to ensure that you get equity, fairness and justice; not only in your LGA, but across Gombe State and Nigeria. By the grace of God, your aspiration will receive a positive outcome,” he said.

He reiterated that democracy must reflect the will of the people, noting that his administration has embraced a rotational approach to governance to ensure inclusiveness among different groups.

The governor also noted that both the state government and the ruling party were aligned with the demand, describing it as justified. He commended the delegation for formally presenting their appeal to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Drawing from past political developments in the state, Yahaya referenced the evolution of the Gombe South senatorial seat, where unity and adherence to democratic principles influenced outcomes. He urged stakeholders from Yamaltu/Deba to remain united and law-abiding in their pursuit.

Earlier, leaders of the delegation made a case for the rotation of the Gombe Central senatorial seat to their area.

The stakeholders argued that the Gombe Central senatorial seat has remained in Akko Local Government Area for a prolonged period, stressing the need for equity, fairness and inclusivity in the distribution of political offices within the district.
