The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Eyitayo Oyinlola, has urged troops to uphold discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship as the 2025 edition of the 3 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition commences in Taraba State.

Speaking through the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Maj. Gen. Oyinlola gave the charge while declaring the event open at the 20 Model Battalion Parade Ground in Serti Baruwa, Gashaka Local Government Area.

Emphasising the broader objectives of the competition, Maj. Gen. Oyinlola said the event goes beyond winning, but serves as a platform for learning, bonding, and reinforcing the unity that defines the army.

While encouraging the participants to embrace healthy rivalry and mutual respect, the general officer commanding described the annual competition as a key component of the army’s training programme at enhancing combat proficiency, leadership development, endurance, teamwork, and overall organisational capacity among junior soldiers.

These attributes, he said, are vital for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Maj. Gen. Oyinlola further noted that the event aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, which seeks to consolidate the transformation of the army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional roles within a joint and multi-agency environment.

Reaffirming the army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State, he assured residents that the 6 Brigade remains steadfast in its efforts to deny criminals and enemies of peace any haven.

“We remain steadfast in securing lives and property, and fostering an environment conducive to peace, growth, and development,” he said.

Formations participating in this year’s competition include 6 Brigade, Jalingo, 23 Brigade, Yola, 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, 3 Division Garrison, Jos, 43 Engineer Brigade, and 53 Signal Brigade, all under the 3 Division.

Events scheduled for the competition, according to information gathered by our correspondent, include drills, map reading, swimming, cross-country runs, weapons handling, and obstacle crossing.
