The Plateau State Police Command has assured residents there is no threat after rumors of a bomb scare in Jos caused panic. The alleged explosion, which circulated widely on Tuesday morning, turned out to be a false alarm.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo, the command received a report around 8:20 a.m. regarding a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) supposedly planted in a shallow hole near Murtala Way, beside the former site of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
“At exactly 8:20 a.m., we received a report of a shallow dug hole suspected to be planted with an IED at Murtala Way beside the old site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital,” Alabo stated. “This rumor caused unnecessary panic among residents.”

Responding swiftly, Plateau State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina dispatched the Anti-Bomb Squad to investigate. The squad cordoned off the area, inspected the location, and confirmed it was safe, with no explosive devices present.
Alabo thanked the residents of Plateau for remaining calm and vigilant, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and security awareness. “We urge residents to go about their daily activities with confidence, knowing their safety is our top priority,” he said.
The Plateau Police Command encourages all citizens to report any suspicious activity to the authorities but assures the public that there is no cause for alarm.
