Embattled Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet, citing blackmail and political persecution. His resignation follows mounting allegations of certificate forgery that have dominated headlines in recent weeks.
President Tinubu formally accepted Nnaji’s resignation on Monday, October 7, 2025, according to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Appointed in August 2023, Nnaji’s tenure was marked by both ambitious reform plans and growing controversy. In his resignation letter, the minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation, but noted that he had become a “target of relentless blackmail” orchestrated by political opponents seeking to tarnish his reputation.

The Presidency confirmed that President Tinubu has accepted Nnaji’s decision and extended his appreciation for the minister’s contributions to the administration’s innovation and technology agenda. The President also wished him success in his future endeavours.
Nnaji’s resignation adds to the list of early exits from Tinubu’s cabinet due to heightened public scrutiny of top government officials. Analysts say the development may prompt renewed calls for greater transparency and accountability in ministerial appointments.
