The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has formally admitted 6,356 new students for the 2025/2026 academic year, its largest enrollment figure since the institution was established 38 years ago.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide.
The matriculation ceremony held at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building coincided with the university’s 13th Commencement Lecture.
Addressing the fresh students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described this year’s admission figure as a landmark achievement for the university. He attributed the increased intake to growing trust from parents and prospective students.
Prof. Kehinde urged the new students to conduct themselves responsibly, maintain decent dressing, attend at least 70 percent of their classes, and comply fully with all university regulations.
“FUNAAB is committed to grooming future leaders,” he said. “Students must therefore dress appropriately, uphold discipline, meet the required minimum class attendance, and abide by the rules guiding the institution.”
He reiterated the university’s firm stance against all forms of misconduct, noting that student union activities on campus must be anchored on dialogue, responsibility, and constructive engagement. He also assured the students that the administration remains committed to safeguarding their rights.
The Commencement Lecture titled “Future Leaders of Character in Agriculture: Building Capacity Today for National and Global Impact Tomorrow” was delivered by Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University.

Prof. Fasoyiro urged the new intakes to develop character, competence, and capacity, stressing that these attributes form the bedrock of impactful leadership. She outlined key leadership qualities including vision, strategic thinking, courage, emotional intelligence, integrity, teamwork, and resilience.
She further identified clarity, commitment, capacity, character, consistency, and contribution as values essential for national progress, qualities she encouraged the students to cultivate.
According to her, “The future is predictable, and students must prepare for it through discipline and lifelong learning. When you work on your character, your reputation naturally follows.”
