In a call for change amidst the shrinking availability of white-collar jobs, the Lamdo of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has urged Fulani youths across Adamawa State and beyond to focus on acquiring entrepreneurial skills. This appeal was made during the National Pulaaku Day celebration in Jimeta, Yola North, where the theme was “Promote Peace Among Diverse Ethnic Nationalities in the State.”

Represented by Professor Abubakar Abba Tahir, the Adamawa monarch highlighted the crucial role of both Islamic and Western education in ensuring success both in this world and the hereafter. “Knowledge is the key to success,” he emphasized, underscoring the need for youths to diversify their skill sets.

Bathiya Wesley, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, also addressed the gathering, praising the Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation (FUDECO) for its efforts in fostering peace and unity in the region. He assured that the state legislature remains committed to passing laws that support peaceful coexistence, particularly in line with FUDECO’s initiatives rooted in Fulani heritage and the teachings of Usman Dan Fodio.

Jamila Hassan, Chairperson of FUDECO in Adamawa State, also took the stage, highlighting the organization’s achievements in promoting education and conflict resolution between farmers and herders. She urged the people of Adamawa to continue living in harmony, despite ethnic and religious differences.

The event, which attracted FUDECO members from across Nigeria, featured colorful cultural displays, poetry readings, and presentations of educational materials to nomadic schools. National Pulaaku Day, recognized annually in October and celebrated under UNESCO’s patronage, aims to honor Fulani heritage and values.

Historical figures such as Usman Dan Fodio, renowned for his contributions to Islamic education, and Professor Jibrin Aminu, the pioneer of nomadic education in Nigeria, were also celebrated during the event.
