Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has once again written to the State House of Assembly, reaffirming his commitment to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for consideration and approval. This move comes after a previous failed attempt, where he was denied access to the Assembly complex.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, and addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the governor proposed to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or any other date deemed appropriate by the House within the month.
Governor Fubara emphasized that his decision aligns with the Supreme Court’s judgment and is in response to the lawmakers’ request for a fresh budget presentation. He recalled his bitter experience when he and his entourage were locked out of the Assembly Quarters during his initial attempt to present the budget.

The governor noted that despite submitting a soft copy of the budget notice, the Clerk refused to accept the hard copy, leading to the disruption of the budget presentation. He also pointed out that the Assembly had issued a 48-hour ultimatum for him to present the budget, even before his administration received a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment.
Reaffirming his commitment to due process, Governor Fubara stated that all arms of government must operate within the Constitution to resolve the ongoing political stalemate in Rivers State. He stressed that the interest of the state and its people should take precedence over political disputes.
With tensions still high, political analysts believe that the upcoming budget presentation will be a defining moment in Rivers State’s governance. Whether the lawmakers will grant the governor access this time remains to be seen, but all eyes are now on the Assembly as the March 19 deadline approaches.
