The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has engaged stakeholders in Kano on mitigating trailer and tanker crashes.
The town hall meeting had in attendance critical stakeholders from both the transport and emergency response sectors, including representatives of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), federal and state fire services.
Others are the representatives of key transport unions, such as the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), NARTO, NURTW, and RTEAN, among others.
The FRSC Sector Commander, M. B. Bature, emphasised on the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the rising spate of crashes involving articulated vehicles.

He noted that proactive engagement with stakeholders is central to achieving safer road operations.
According to a statement issued by the sector’s Public Education Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, the event featured paper presentation by the Kano–Zaria Corridor Commander, Abdulrahman Yakasai, who highlighted mechanical failure, fatigue, and overloading to be the root causes of trailer and tanker crashes.
He stated that preventive measures, such as improved driver’s training, regular vehicle checks, and adherence to safety regulations can help in the mitigation of such crashes.
The statement said the meeting featured an interactive session, where participants shared practical experiences, identified operational challenges, and recommended actionable solutions.
They called for enhanced inter-agency collaboration, routine safety enlightenment campaigns, stricter enforcement of haulage regulations, and sustained stakeholder engagement to mitigate further trailer/tanker crashes in the country.
