The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recalled an entire patrol team following a viral report by Premium Media alleging bribery and misconduct by some of its operatives.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed ordered the immediate withdrawal of the officers for a full investigation and possible disciplinary action, including dismissal and prosecution if found guilty.

According to a statement issued by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the move underscores the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy on corruption and unethical behavior.

“Being an organisation that upholds discipline, if found guilty of bribery or corruption, the operatives will face severe disciplinary action, including dismissal and prosecution,” the statement said.

Responding to references in the report about a 2021 ICPC-led arrest of FRSC officers, the Corps clarified that it has taken proactive anti-corruption steps, including partnerships with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

These collaborations reportedly led to the arrest of over 70 personnel within one year, many of whom were sanctioned internally and prosecuted.

The FRSC has also embraced digital innovations to promote transparency. Through support from the Akin Fadeyi Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation, the agency launched the Flag-It app, which enables the public to report extortion and misconduct in real time.

Additionally, an internal mobile app allows real-time monitoring and recognition of officers who demonstrate professionalism.

The Corps Marshal called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and take advantage of reporting tools to expose corrupt practices.

“We encourage the public to support our efforts by reporting any acts of misconduct. FRSC remains committed to restoring integrity in road safety enforcement,” the statement concluded.
