The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that four persons lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a cement truck and two other vehicles on the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba on Monday.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Delta State, Mr. Frederick Ogidan, who confirmed the crash, said three other victims were rescued with injuries and rushed to the St. Rebecca Hospital in Asaba.
Ogidan said the truck, which belonged to BUA and was loaded with cement, lost control due to excessive speed and rammed into two vehicles on the busy bridge.

“It is unfortunate that such a crash happened on a very good road. The driver must have been speeding and lost control. Four persons were confirmed dead, while three others were rescued alive from the wreckage,” the FRSC boss stated.
Earlier reports from eyewitnesses had suggested that eight persons were killed and that the truck belonged to Dangote Cement, but the FRSC has since clarified the casualty figure and ownership of the vehicle.
Emergency officials have cleared the scene to ease traffic flow, while the corps has urged motorists, particularly truck drivers, to avoid speeding and observe all safety rules to prevent further tragedies.
