The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of six persons, while 25 others were injured in a multiple auto crash under the Karu Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday.
The incident involved 18 vehicles, including two articulated vehicles, two buses, a jeep, and 11 cars, many of which were severely damaged and burnt.
The FRSC stated that the crash, which happened around 6:58 pm, was caused by brake failure, leading to a chain reaction among the vehicles. Emergency responders, including the FRSC, Red Cross, fire service, and military personnel, arrived promptly to assist.
Out of the six victims who lost their lives, four were burnt beyond recognition. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for medical care, while the deceased were taken to the mortuary.
Key officials from the FRSC, including the sector commander for the FCT and the corps marshal, were on-site to coordinate rescue efforts and offer condolences to the victims’ families.
