The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has commended the Sokoto State Government for its support to the corps in the state.
He emphasized that this goodwill will motivate the staff towards improved service delivery.
The corps marshal gave the commendation during his visit to the Sokoto State Sector Command of the FRSC on Wednesday, where he addressed staff from the Sokoto Zonal Command, sector command, special marshals, and members of the Road Safety Club as part of his familiarization tour.
Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in a statement, said the corps marshal highlighted the exemplary relationship between the FRSC and the state government.
He noted that the extensive road construction and rehabilitation efforts by the state government have led to a decrease in traffic violations and a corresponding reduction in road traffic crashes.
“The donation of a patrol vehicle to the sector command by the state, along with other promises of support made by the governor, demonstrates a commitment from a leader who is dedicated to assisting the FRSC in its mission to mitigate road traffic crashes in the country,” the corps marshal stated.
Mohammed expressed gratitude to the staff for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices, which were evident during the successful 2024 year-end special patrol.
He reaffirmed the corps’s commitment to addressing staff welfare, capacity development, and regular promotion exercise, emphasizing that the FRSC management will continue to reward excellence and address indiscipline.
The corps marshal warned against indiscipline both on the road and in the office, encouraging all personnel to take accountability seriously.

“Every staff must understand that accountability is a key element in all they do and should strive for excellence to justify the trust placed in them by the government and the people of Nigeria,” he added.
Mohammed also expressed gratitude to key stakeholders and the media for their continued support in raising public awareness about road safety issues.
However, he voiced concern about the high incidence of overloading and mixed loading among some drivers in the state, stating that these practices contribute to preventable loss of life in road traffic crashes.
He emphasized the necessity for public involvement in the ongoing campaign against tanker crashes and expressed dismay over the reckless behaviour of individuals who rush to scoop fuel at crash scenes, despite knowing the inflammable nature of petroleum products.
The two-day visit to Sokoto State is set to continue with meetings planned for the state governor and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, on Thursday.
