The Federal Road Safety Corps.(FRSC), says it has zero tolerance for corruption even as it has arrested no fewer than 280 motorists in Cross River State between June and October 2025.
The culprits were drivers who offer bribes to FRSC personnel at various checkpoints across the state, the Sector Commander, Mr Innocent Etuk, has disclosed.
He stated this during a live programme on HIT FM, a local radio station in Calabar, while speaking on road safety measures for motorists as the Yuletide approaches.
Also, he disclosed that the campaign would kick-off on October 20, 2025.
The theme of the awareness campaign according to the state sector commander is: “Take responsibility for your safety, avoid distractive driving,” adding that the programme will be marked with a road show.
While urging drivers to resist the temptation to bribe FRSC officers, he warned that both givers and takers of bribes would face sanctions, explaining that the arrests were part of efforts to discourage drivers from encouraging extortion by FRSC personnel.
“Since my assumption of duty in June 2025, we have arrested 280 drivers who attempted to compromise our men,” explaining that the arrests, is to send a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated.

He advised motorists to record evidence of any extortion attempt, and assured that such reports would be thoroughly investigated.
According to him, the FRSC now have internal mechanisms to deal with any personnel found culpable.
“We maintain zero tolerance for road corruption, extortion, or assault involving our men,” he stated while responding to calls on alleged extortion and harassment by FRSC officers, particularly in Calabar and its environs.
Etuk, while acknowledging the complaints, appealed for mutual respect and better understanding between motorists and FRSC personnel adding “we are all partners in ensuring safer roads.”
He used the occasion to advise drivers during the ember months to have 100 percent concentration and avoid the use of phones and discussions while driving.
