Another violent cult attack has shattered the uneasy calm in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, as a young man from Mkpani community was brutally assaulted and left with deep machete wounds in what residents describe as part of an unending cycle of bloodshed.
Although the victim’s identity was not immediately confirmed, eyewitnesses said the attack bore the same hallmarks as previous cult-related assaults that have long terrorized Yakurr communities. The latest violence adds to a string of brutal confrontations linked to rival groups operating across the area, particularly in Ugep, the local government headquarters.
Only weeks ago, a similar incident left Mr. Felix Ebri Inah with severe machete injuries to the head, sparking renewed fear among residents who say drug use and cult rivalry are driving the wave of attacks.

“The situation has become unbearable,” one resident told The Trumpet. “Every few days we hear of another victim. People are now living in fear because these clashes can happen anywhere, at any time.”
Two weeks earlier, Ugep town was again thrown into chaos when stray bullets from a confrontation between suspected members of the Bagga confraternity hit a woman and her daughter, leaving both critically injured.
Community leaders have repeatedly called for urgent government intervention, warning that the persistent cult war threatens peace and stability in the entire Yakurr axis.
