The former Osun State deputy governor, Prince Adesuyi Haastrup, has been elected as the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland by the Ilesa kingmakers.
According to reports, he became victorious after defeating nine other contenders from the same Owa Bilaro Olu-Odo ruling house.
In a statement made available to reporters by the public relations officer for the ruling house, Isaac Haastrup, the Prince was chosen by the kingmakers in a free and fair election that took place at the Ilesa-West Local Government Secretariat on Friday.

Obaala, High Chief Ibitoye, Oba Ipole, Oba Omokehinde Oyeleye, Ogboni Ijebu-jesa, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye (Elegboro), Ogboni Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, Ogboni Ilesa High Chief Saka Fapohunda, Oba Odo of Ilesa, and seven Agba Ijesa, Risawe of Ilesa, he said, were among the kingmakers of Iwora.
Looja Clement Adesuyi received the highest votes and was declared the Owa Obokun elect by Mrs. Felicia Olabimtan, the Head of Local Government Administration in Ilesa West Local Government, who was also declaring the election results.
According to her, seven kingmakers were ineligible to vote, High Chief Adefioye Adedeji was not present, and six of them cast the ballots.
