The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State election, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, is dead.
He died on Wednesday morning at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos, aged 60.
Until his death, Akingboye was a prominent businessman and politician.
He was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime, Clog Oil Systems, and also served as the president of WeAfrica Group.
He held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.
Confirming the development, his aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, described him as “a beacon of hope to countless people.”

The Ondo SDP, in a condolence statement, said his passing was a huge loss not just to the party but also to the state and Nigeria’s business community.
“He was a man of vision and a strong advocate for good governance and development,” the party said while commiserating with his family, friends, and supporters.
