The first civilian First Lady of Delta State, Mrs. Edna Ibru, wife of the late former Governor Olorogun Felix Ibru, has passed away. She died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in London following a brief illness.
Mrs. Ibru, a trailblazer and former Miss Nigeria of 1964, was a symbol of grace and elegance who left an indelible mark on Nigerian history. She was not only a beauty queen but also the first Nigerian and African to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant. Her remarkable achievements extended beyond her crown, as she played a vital role as the wife of Delta’s first democratically elected governor, serving from 1991 to 1992.
The Ibru family of Agbarha-Otor Kingdom confirmed her passing in a heartfelt statement issued by her son, Dr. Paul Aidido Ibru, on Saturday. In his tribute, he described her as “amazing,” noting that she was full of life and laughter, a mother to many, and a mediator who touched countless lives with her humor and kindness.
Dr. Ibru said, “Our amazing mother passed into glory on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. Until her death, she was full of life, and we never expected her to leave us so soon, but we cannot question the will of God in her precious life.”
