Former President of the Christ Apostolic Church Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor Abraham Olukunle Akinosun, has died at the age of 80, bringing to a close decades of influential service in Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement.
In an official statement, the church confirmed that Akinosun passed away on March 22, 2026. His death marks the end of a defining chapter in the history of the denomination, where he served as the seventh president from 2012 until his retirement in 2020.
Akinosun also held a prominent position as former chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Osun State and was conferred with the title of Justice of the Peace in 2002 in recognition of his contributions to society and faith-based leadership.
Born on February 27, 1945, Akinosun began his educational journey in the mid-1950s before undergoing vocational training in plumbing at Ibadan City Works. He later worked with established construction firms, including Julius Berger Nigeria and G. Cappa, before committing fully to Christian ministry.
He entered full-time gospel service in 1972 and received formal theological training at the CAC Bible Training College between 1973 and 1975. His early ministerial assignments included serving as a catechist in Oja-Odan and later in Yaba, Lagos, where he built a reputation for discipline and pastoral dedication.
In 1978, he travelled to Europe for further studies, attending institutions in West Germany, Sweden, and Belgium, where he obtained a degree in Biblical Studies from the Continental Theological Seminary.
Ordained as a pastor in 1981, Akinosun went on to serve in several strategic roles, including lecturer at the CAC Theological Seminary in Ile-Ife and District Superintendent in Itire, Lagos. His steady rise within the church hierarchy culminated in his appointment as General Superintendent of CAC Worldwide in 2010 and later as president in 2012.
