A former local government chairman, Isa Muhammad Wabi has been killed in an early morning attack, just as the Bauchi State Police Command launched an investigation into the killing at his residence in Fadaman Mada, near Government Girls Secondary School, Bauchi.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, police received a distress call in the early hours of Thursday and responded swiftly to the scene.

“Officers arrived to find Mr Wabi critically injured with multiple stab wounds to the neck. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries”, police said.
Preliminary findings, according to the command, suggested that the attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. and was allegedly carried out by individuals known to Mr Wabi’s 24-year-old son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed.

The assailants, identified as Ahmad Abdulkadir (also known as Abba) and Faruk Malami (also known as Ajebo), reportedly broke into the home and launched the fatal assault.

In a surprising turn, one of the suspects, Ajebo, was found unconscious at the scene, reportedly following a retaliatory attack by an unknown individual. He was also taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, according to the statement, has visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and reassure them of a thorough investigation.

He was said to have vowed that the police would pursue justice and ensure those behind the killing are held accountable.
