Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, known as the Flamingos, will kick off their journey to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals by entering the African qualifiers at the second round stage.

The Flamingos will compete against the winner of the preliminary matchup between the Niger Republic and Guinea.

The first leg of the second round is set to occur between May 22 and 24, with the return leg scheduled for May 29 to 31.

The team that wins on aggregate over the two matches will progress to the third and final qualifying round.

The first leg of this round will take place from July 3 to 5, while the second legs are planned for July 10 to 12.

Teams that succeed in the qualifiers will earn their spots in the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Morocco in October.

Nigeria is recognized as one of Africa’s most reliable teams at the U-17 level and aims to make a strong comeback on the global stage after their previous tournament ended in disappointment.

The Flamingos were knocked out in the Round of 16 after suffering a 4–0 loss to Italy, which abruptly ended their campaign.

This early exit has intensified the focus on the upcoming qualifiers as the Flamingos seek to regain momentum and reaffirm their position as one of the continent’s traditional leaders in women’s youth football.
