The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has reported a fire that occurred at one of its head office in Abuja yesterday morning, with no fatalities reported.
The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the FIRS office located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
In a statement from Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the executive chairman of FIRS, it was noted that the situation was quickly managed thanks to the prompt actions of security personnel and emergency responders.
“The fire, which started on the fourth floor, was quickly addressed by our on-duty security staff,” Akinola stated.
He further explained that the quick response from the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service and other emergency agencies prevented the fire from escalating or spreading to other areas of the building.
“With the rapid assistance from the FCT Fire Service and other emergency teams, the fire was effectively contained and stopped from spreading further,” he added.
Akinola confirmed that there were no casualties, although some offices on the affected floor were damaged by the fire.
“The service can confirm that there were no loss of life in this incident. However, several offices on the impacted floor experienced damage,” he mentioned.
The affected floor contains the executive office suites of previous executive chairmen of the FIRS, and the extent of the damage is still being evaluated.

An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire, with initial findings indicating that it may have been caused by an electrical malfunction.
“An investigation into the fire’s cause has started, with early assessments suggesting a potential electrical fault,” he noted.
“In the meantime, we are thoroughly reviewing and enhancing all internal safety protocols to prevent future incidents,” Akinola added.
The FIRS assured the public that operations will continue while necessary measures are implemented to address the incident’s impact and enhance safety across its facilities.
