Geometric Power Limited undertaking the Aba Power Project in Abia State has hinted at increased hope that electricity consumers in Aba and its environs will begin to enjoy a stable power supply in less than six months.

The managing director of the company, Mrs. Agatha Nnaji, gave the indication while presenting an update of the project at the company’s office at Osisioma in Aba.

She stressed the imperative of stable power supply in the South East of Nigeria region and especially in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, and the entire region where lack of stable electricity had negatively impacted the economic, commercial, and industrial activities in the zone.

Speaking at the forum, Chairman of Geometric Power Limited and former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, said the Aba Electricity Ring Fence had the capacity of providing reliable power to its customers in Aba South, Aba North, Isiala Ngwa South, Isiala Ngwa North, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Ugwunagbo, Osisioma Ngwa and Obingwa.

He said the power plant would meet the needs of industrial, commercial and residential areas within the economic cluster. Also speaking, Managing Director in charge of Aba Power Electricity Distribution, Patrick Umeh, listed measures already taken to serve the consumers, saying they include procurement and distribution of meters from a licensed manufacturer, especially prepaid meters to all its consumers.

He added that the new buildings, distribution of reliable power and billing system would be based on consumption instead of estimation billing and that those that do not have meters, would be billed according to the regulation of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

He said: “The era of community billing is over, as the company will engage communities on their plans with the company’s engineers who will respond quickly to any challenges on the power lines, even as plans are ongoing to establish baselines to avoid overloading, The Trumpet gathered.

Conducting the journalists on inspection tour of the facilities of the plant, Chief Technical Adviser of Aba Electricity Ring Fence, Ben Caven, said there were already three turbines with Boeing 737 power to operate them and that the Aba Power Plant has the capacity to produce 140megawatts as against the 50 megawatts from the National Grid, while the 27 kilometer pipeline through Owaza would boost steady supply of gas to the power plant.
