An early morning fire on Monday razed several stores at the Kano Singer Market.
Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
According to findings by our reporter, the inferno broke out in the early hours of Monday, allegedly due to the combined use of inverters and public electricity supply by shop owners in the market.
Yusif disclosed that the fire service received a distress call at about 3:16 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters to the scene to contain the blaze.

He added that as of around 10:00 a.m., some sections of the stores were still burning, with firemen battling to fully bring the situation under control and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the market.
The fire service spokesperson said the inferno affected eight stores located at Gidan Musa, as well as a nearby two-storey building housing several shops and offices.
Yusif assured that further details regarding the incident would be made available to journalists as investigations continue.
