Firefighters on Monday battled a blaze that broke out at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, affecting a section of the office of the head of service.
The fire reportedly engulfed part of Block C of the complex in the early hours of the morning, triggering panic among workers and visitors to the secretariat.
The incident, which started around 8:30 a.m., prompted an emergency response from personnel of the Federal Fire Service, who were deployed to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

Eyewitnesses said thick smoke billowed from sections of the block as civil servants arriving for work gathered around the premises, watching firefighters struggle to bring the situation under control.
Officials were yet to confirm the cause of the fire as of press time, and no casualties had been reported.
The extent of damage and possible losses could also not be immediately ascertained, while emergency responders continued efforts to completely extinguish the blaze.
