Goods and properties worth millions of naira were burnt in an early morning fire at Simra Multi-Purpose Market and Small Scale Rubber Recycling Industries in the Dakata area of Kano State.
Eyewitness accounts said that the fire started around 4:00 am on Wednesday, and was believed to have been triggered from a spark on an electric pole when the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) restored power supply to the area.
The fire incident is said to have ravaged several factories engaged in nylon and plastic production at the hub.
Ibrahim Aliyu, one of the witnesses said that the fire burnt production machines, raw materials, and finished goods in the market.

Meanwhile the newly deployed state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, who visited the scene sympathised with the victims and ordered for discreet investigation into the cause of the fire incident.
While noting that no live was lost, he urged members of the public to exercise caution to prevent fire related cases.
However, spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the fire incident and said a detailed information will be released upon completion of investigation.
