A fire outbreak has destroyed goods valued at millions of naira in a multi-story commercial building located on Somoye Osundairo Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, during the early hours of Tuesday, January 20.
A statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the fire broke out around 1:55 am, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its command centre in Alausa.
The agency said when the LASEMA response team arrived at the scene, they found that fire had engulfed a one-storey building housing computer and accessory shops at the Computer Village, Ikeja.
LASEMA added that the large amount of flammable materials inside the building contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
Fortunately, it said no fatalities were reported, although some firefighters sustained minor injuries.
However, it stated that the entire upper floor of the building was destroyed by the fire, along with goods and property stored inside.

The agency stated that its response team conducted a risk assessment, secured the area, and coordinated a multi-agency effort involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the police to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
“All goods and property worth millions of naira stored in the building were completely lost to the fire,” the agency reported, adding that firefighting efforts successfully contained the blaze within the affected structure, preventing it from escalating to adjacent properties.
Meanwhile, LASEMA revealed that it has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
