No fewer than 100 stalls have been destroyed following a fire outbreak at the Dakata Small-Scale Industrial Complex, popularly known as Fatima Crossion and Recycling, located at the Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, in a statement issued on Friday evening disclosed that the agency’s emergency response unit received a distress call from a resident, Mr. Joseph, reporting the inferno at the industrial facility located at the Dakata area.

According to him, firefighters from the service headquarters, Dakata Fire Station and Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene.

“On arrival, our men discovered that the industrial complex, measuring about 300 by 200 feet, had been engulfed by fire,” he stated.

The complex, divided into Plots A, B, C and D, houses about 506 stalls.

Yusuf revealed that about 100 stalls were completely razed, with estimated losses put between N700 million and N800 million.

He said preliminary findings indicated that the fire was allegedly ignited by children who lit an open flame to keep warm.

The fire service spokesman added that the blaze was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of firefighters who deployed four fire engines, thereby preventing further spread to other sections of the complex.

He urged members of the public to adhere strictly to fire safety measures, particularly by avoiding the use of open flames in public and industrial areas to forestall future occurrences.

Recently two separate fire outbreaks were recorded at Kano’s Singer Market, resulting in losses estimated at billions of naira.
