Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been declared the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, following his formal defection to the ruling party.
The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a grand reception held in honour of the governor’s entry into the APC. Shettima, who represented the party leadership at the event, said Fintiri’s leadership status in the state aligns with the party’s structure nationwide.
He also praised the governor’s performance in office, particularly his infrastructural and public works projects, describing them as commendable and a strong basis for his inclusion in the ruling party.
“Governor Fintiri has demonstrated capacity and commitment to governance. His achievements in infrastructure and public service delivery speak volumes,” the vice president said, while formally welcoming him into the APC fold.
In his response, Governor Fintiri expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged loyalty to the party. He stated that his immediate political objective would be to deliver Adamawa State for the APC in the 2027 general elections.

“It is time for the South, and I will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” Fintiri said, reaffirming his commitment to the party’s national agenda.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, described the APC as the largest political party in Nigeria and welcomed Fintiri’s defection as a significant boost to its strength.
Similarly, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda congratulated the governor, noting that his entry into the party would consolidate its influence in Adamawa and enhance its prospects ahead of future elections.
