The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to establish digital technology hubs in 200 rural communities across the six geopolitical zones. The initiative, part of the first phase of implementation, aims to revolutionize access to modern technology in underserved areas.
The President’s Special Assistant for ICT Development and Digital Innovation, Mr. Tokoni Igoin, confirmed the development in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday. He emphasized the transformative power of technology in reshaping communication, education, networking, and economic activities globally.
“Many rural communities in Nigeria still lack access to basic digital infrastructure, hindering their economic and educational growth,” Igoin noted. He explained that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the development of the ICT sector and other critical areas of the economy.
Mr. Charles Folayan, the Project Coordinator, described the hubs as state-of-the-art innovation centers designed to empower rural youths. These centers will provide coworking spaces, incubation programs, mentorship, and workshops tailored to equip young Nigerians with skills for the 21st-century economy.

“Our goal is to drive economic diversification and local content development by fostering innovation and building capacity,” Folayan stated. “This initiative will tackle unemployment, reduce poverty, and curb social vices, creating a pathway for sustainable development in rural communities.”
The digital hubs aim to boost business growth and diversification by integrating cutting-edge technology into grassroots economies. The hubs are expected to serve as launchpads for tech startups, enabling rural entrepreneurs to thrive in the global digital economy.
