The Federal Government has announced that parts of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway will be commissioned by May 2025.

Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, disclosed this in a statement signed by his media aide, Orji Uchenna Orji. He revealed that approximately 20 kilometers of both road projects will be ready for commissioning by May 29, 2025. Umahi emphasized that these projects are among the four Renewed Hope legacy initiatives and other ongoing infrastructure developments being implemented across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to the Minister, work on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is advancing steadily, with section one in the South West expected to deliver its first 20 kilometers by the commissioning date. Additionally, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is also making significant strides, with ongoing construction in the first 120 kilometers in Sokoto. This section, being executed by Hitech Construction using concrete technology, complements the Kebbi section of 250 kilometers, where work is equally progressing.

Umahi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing funding for these critical infrastructure projects despite the administration’s focus on other pressing sectors of the economy. He further highlighted that the legacy projects incorporate train tracks, with sections of these rail systems set to commence operations in 2025.

The commissioning of these road sections is anticipated to enhance economic activities, reduce travel time, and improve interconnectivity between regions, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure. As the countdown to May 2025 continues, stakeholders and citizens alike eagerly await the unveiling of these transformative projects.
