The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NACA) has suspended Max Air’s domestic flight operations for three months following a tyre burst incident involving one of its Boeing 737-400 aircraft in Kano on January 28, 2025.
The aircraft, with 53 passengers onboard, experienced the tyre burst, while landing at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, even everyone onboard the aircraft was safely evacuated.
In response to this incident which is now the third involving Max Air within three months, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had initiated an investigation.
The authority’s Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the suspension of Max Air’s operations, effective from midnight on January 31, 2025, to allow the airline to conduct an internal review.
“It must be stated that the specific cause(s) of this incident can only be established after the NSIB has conducted its investigation,” Achimugu said.

During the suspension, the authority will carry out a comprehensive safety and economic audit of Max Air, which includes re-inspecting the airline’s organizational procedures and financial health.
“However, as a result of this incident, Max Air is suspending its domestic flight operations for three months, effective from midnight on January 31, 2025, to allow for an internal review of its operations,” he stated.
Achimugu emphasized that the resumption of flight operations will depend on a satisfactory outcome from these audits. While acknowledging the potential inconvenience to passengers.
The authority reiterated that passenger safety is its top priority and requested patience and understanding as it navigates this situation.
