The federal government has rejected the classification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as terrorist organizations by a Canadian court.
In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the ruling that placed the APC and PDP as terrorists organizations, describing the ruling as “baseless, unfounded, and unacceptable,” emphasizing that it threatens the relationship between Nigeria and Canada.
“The government of Nigeria fully rejects the recent decision by the Federal Court of Canada, which incorrectly labeled Nigeria’s two major political parties as terrorist organizations under Canadian immigration laws.

“This ruling is based on unfounded claims and a misrepresentation of facts, and it undermines the mutual respect and cooperation that have defined Nigeria-Canada relations,” the statement said.
The ministry noted that the verdict arose from a case involving a Nigerian national seeking asylum in Canada and accused “politically motivated actors” of taking advantage of the Canadian legal system to tarnish Nigeria’s political institutions.
It urged the Canadian government to take immediate action to overturn the ruling and to prevent similar “misguided and harmful” decisions in the future.
