The Federal Government has inaugurated a high level committee to coordinate the training of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s digital workforce and expanding access to technology driven opportunities.
The committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, through his representative. He said the initiative was designed to accelerate Nigeria’s march toward a digitally competent population and to prepare citizens for the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy.
According to Akume, the committee will oversee the implementation of the nationwide training programme and also organise a National Digital Literacy Conference, which is expected to serve as a platform for policy dialogue, innovation exchange, and skills development.
He explained that the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s target of attaining 95 percent digital literacy by 2030 and fits squarely within President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises human capital development, innovation, and inclusive growth.

The SGF clarified that although the initiative follows federal policy direction, it is fully funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited, underscoring the role of private sector participation in driving national development goals.
Akume noted that the training will deliberately focus on youths, women, underserved communities, and persons living with disabilities to ensure broad inclusion and equitable access to digital skills. He added that members of the committee were drawn from relevant federal ministries, agencies, state governments, ICT professionals, and civil society organisations to guarantee effective coordination and nationwide reach.
The initiative is expected to boost employability, support entrepreneurship, and position Nigeria as a competitive player in the digital economy as global demand for technology skills continues to rise.
