The federal government has expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness and infrastructure at the Kumo General Hospital in Gombe State, recently designated as a federal medical centre by President Bola Tinubu.
A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health, led by the Director-General of Hospital Services, Dr. Jimoh Salaudden, visited the facility to assess its readiness for full federal take-over.
Dr. Salaudden, who represented the Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Pate, described the hospital’s condition as impressive and commendable.
Accompanied by Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, the team toured the 200-bed capacity hospital, inspecting various departments, including the operating theater, radiology, and administrative units.
They were particularly impressed by the modern equipment, well-ventilated structures, and reliable solar power back-up.
“We are truly impressed by the buildings and infrastructure. Everything is thoughtfully designed and in excellent condition,” Dr. Salaudden stated.

“This facility is close to being fully operational and holds great promise to serve as a regional medical hub for the North East.”
He noted that the transition process is already underway, with further visits planned for the formal handover.
These will include documentation of staff and integration into the federal civil service.
Key requirements still pending include utility provision, land for expansion, a formal state executive council resolution, and legislative approval for the transfer.
During a courtesy visit, Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the hospital’s upgrade, saying it will significantly enhance healthcare delivery within the state and beyond.
The delegation also met with Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof.Ibrahim Njodi, who reiterated the state’s commitment and readiness, citing the hospital’s advanced infrastructure and medical equipment.
The Lamido Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, praised both federal and state governments for their efforts, saying the hospital’s transformation will have far-reaching socio-economic benefits for the community.
He assured the full support of the local community in ensuring the hospital’s success.
The hospital’s formal conversion to a federal medical centre marks a significant milestone in Gombe State’s healthcare development and is poised to boost service delivery in the region.
