The federal government has commenced the payment of outstanding 2024 capital projects, signaling renewed efforts to clear existing backlogs and accelerate project delivery across the country.
The development was disclosed on Friday by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, in a post shared on X.
According to Dare, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to submit their cash plans for the 2025 budget by close of business on Monday, February 23, 2026.
He added that payment processing would commence immediately after the submission of the required documents.
The government has also set March 31, 2026, as the deadline for the full implementation of the capital components of both the 2024 and 2025 budgets, underscoring its commitment to improved fiscal discipline and timely execution of projects.

The announcement follows assurances by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, during an interactive session between the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the federal government’s economic team on the proposed ₦58.472 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Uzoka-Anite stated that the financial management system has now been restored and urged MDAs to complete all necessary documentation to facilitate prompt disbursement of funds.
The session, which later went into a closed-door meeting, was also attended by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsedeen Ogunjimi.
The move is expected to bring relief to contractors and other stakeholders awaiting payments for completed capital projects, while reinforcing the administration’s drive to strengthen public financial management and stimulate economic activity nationwide.
