The Federal Government has approved additional funding to complete the Cham–Numan section of the Yola–Gombe highway, a vital road linking Adamawa and Gombe State. The move comes after months of frustration from motorists over accidents, vehicle damage, and rising insecurity on the route.

Mr. Demas Tuwai, Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Adamawa, confirmed the development in Yola, explaining that heavy rainfall had slowed progress. He assured, however, that the contractor has begun mobilizing materials and equipment, with work expected to resume fully within six weeks.

Tuwai appealed for patience, urging drivers to exercise caution around construction zones, while promising that the road will be safer and more efficient once completed.

Commercial drivers who rely on the road have welcomed the news but expressed deep frustration over years of hardship. Malam Sagir Dogo described the current state of the highway as “a daily risk,” noting that potholes and flooding have led to constant accidents. Another driver, Hassan Umar, warned that criminals exploit traffic jams at night to rob stranded vehicles, stressing the urgency for government intervention.

The Cham–Numan corridor remains one of the most strategic highways in the northeast, serving as a lifeline for trade, transport, and security operations. With the new funding, authorities insist the Yola–Gombe road project will finally be delivered, promising relief for communities and safer journeys across the region.
