The federal government has approved ₦48 billion for the upgrade of engineering and technology facilities in 12 selected universities across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
The approval was announced in Abuja on March 2, 2026, by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during the launch of the ministerial monitoring, evaluation and implementation committee on TETFund special high-impact intervention projects.
Alausa said the initiative will be implemented through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), with each beneficiary institution receiving ₦4 billion.
The funds are designated for the rehabilitation of workshops, upgrading of laboratories, and procurement of modern equipment to bridge the gap between academic training and industry expectations.
The universities selected for the intervention are the Federal University of Technology, Minna; Federal University of Technology, Akure; Federal University of Technology, Babura; Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Nigerian Army University, Biu, and the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja.

Others include the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto; Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Delta State University, Abraka; and the University of Ilesha.
The minister described the funding as part of broader efforts to strengthen technical skills development, enhance graduate employability, and build capacity for innovation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
The intervention, he noted, aligns with the administration’s wider push to ensure Nigeria’s higher education sector responds effectively to evolving economic and industrial demands.
