The federal government and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have donated N8 billion to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the market, where he sympathised with victims of the inferno and assured them of the federal government’s support.
Shettima said President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of N5 billion as intervention funds to assist the affected traders and provide relief for those whose means of livelihood were disrupted by the fire disaster.
He also announced an additional N3 billion donation from APC governors under the leadership of the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
According to the Vice President, the intervention was aimed at easing the hardship faced by traders and helping them recover from the devastating incident which disrupted commercial activities in the market.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of N5 billion to the government of Kano State to serve as palliatives to the distressed people of the market,” Shettima said.
He added that the APC governors had also pledged N3 billion in support, bringing the total donation to N8 billion.
Shettima stressed that the federal government would continue to stand with Kano State in difficult times, describing Kano as a strategic state that must not be sidelined in national development.
“Kano is too big to play in the periphery. Kano is so important that we cannot afford Kano to be on the sidelines,” he said.
The Vice President was accompanied on the visit by top federal government officials, Kano State government officials, and APC governors, including those of Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto States.
