Chelsea FC manager Liam Rosenior has left out midfielder Enzo Fernández for two upcoming matches following comments the player made about his future at the club.
The Argentine will sit out Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Port Vale, as well as a key Premier League clash with Manchester City scheduled for April 12.
Rosenior explained that the decision was prompted by remarks Fernandez made after the club’s exit from the UEFA Champions League, where he expressed uncertainty about remaining at Stamford Bridge beyond the current season.
The manager described the comments as falling short of the standards expected within the team, noting that they conflicted with the club’s values and dressing-room culture. He added that the disciplinary action had the backing of both the club hierarchy and the players.
However, Rosenior made it clear that the punishment is short-term and does not signal the end of Fernandez’s time at Chelsea.

The development comes during a challenging run for the London side, who endured a difficult March with four straight defeats, including a heavy aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain in European competition.
Fernandez’s remarks were said to reflect frustration over the team’s recent struggles, and reports of his interest in moving to Spain have further intensified speculation about a possible transfer.
Teammate Marc Cucurella also stirred conversation after referencing a potential return to FC Barcelona, though he later reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea.
Rosenior acknowledged that such statements may come from a desire to succeed but stressed the importance of maintaining composure and unity within the squad.
Since his appointment in January, the coach has guided Chelsea to 10 wins in 19 matches. The team currently sits sixth in the league, trailing Aston Villa by six points in the race for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.
With crucial fixtures ahead, Chelsea must now manage internal discipline while continuing their push to secure a return to Europe’s elite competition.
