The Member Representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Atu, has donated three smart mobile laboratories and renovated the existing laboratory hall in Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke, Enugu.
The Federal lawmaker also donated laboratory long tables, stools, customised laboratory self-learn guide booklets, laboratory coats and other laboratory consumables; and equipping of the newly renovated laboratory hall of the school with laboratory items.
Presenting the smart mobile laboratories to the school, Atu said that the initiative was part of his intervention tagged: Renovation and Installation of Mobile Smart Laboratories in Selected Schools in Enugu North and South Federal Constituency.
He said that the three smart mobile laboratories covered a full package of laboratory equipment and consumables for Chemistry, Physics and Biology subjects experimental practicals.
According to him, we have conducted research and discovered that most of our schools lack modern and functional laboratories and students studying these vital science subjects are deficient in practical aspects of these subjects.
“Everyone knows that science, technology and innovation rules the world in every dimension you look at it and we want our students to excel in science, technology and innovation and join their counterparts in developed countries of the world.
“The move today will also prepare them to face challenges of competing with their contemporaries anywhere in the world as I have interacted and seen that they are brilliant but lack basic amenities to bring the best out of them,” he said.
Atu called on Akwuke community and the school management to jealously protect and make judicious use of the laboratories, adding that more interventions would be coming to the school when items are carefully protected and judiciously used.
The lawmaker, who did not disclose the cost of the intervention in the school, noted that the emphasis should be on the impact and number of science students in the school the laboratories would touch their lives and commitment to study.
Responding, the Principal of the School, Mrs Stella Ogbonnia, said that the laboratories would definitely improve the teaching of sciences in the school and help students imbibe learning of science subjects.
