Federal intelligence officers have arrested Francis Odiakose, also known as “Francis Oduwanor,” a notorious figure linked to a wave of violence in Otulu Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State. Oduwanor, wanted for his role in inciting unrest in the community, was apprehended alongside his associate, Chiedu Agwada, known as “Dagger.”

Oduwanor had evaded capture for two years, allegedly protected by powerful contacts, even after being declared wanted by the Delta State Government’s Security Council in 2022. His capture brings relief to Otulu Ogwashi-Uku residents, who have endured years of intimidation, violence, and fear under his influence.

Following a brazen attack on the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, H.R.M. Obi (Dr) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, Oduwanor illegally claimed the title of traditional ruler of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku. This act of defiance against Delta State’s chieftaincy laws marked the start of his campaign to terrorize the community and nearby regions, leaving the town reeling from his brutal tactics.

Local sources revealed that Oduwanor’s supporters, emboldened by alleged high-level connections, returned to Otulu Ogwashi-Uku after a brief detention, bringing violence back to the area. Their actions resulted in the tragic deaths of two community members, forcing recognized community chief Anthony Enurah to flee for his safety.

The arrest of Oduwanor and other armed associates marks a pivotal moment for Otulu Ogwashi-Uku. Residents, however, are calling for federal authorities to follow through by capturing all perpetrators linked to the violence to ensure lasting peace.

Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, the Palace Secretary for the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, praised the police for their persistence in the face of challenges and confirmed the Palace’s commitment to seeing justice served. He urged the Inspector General of Police to intensify efforts to arrest all those responsible for the violence in Otulu Ogwashi-Uku, emphasizing the community’s right to peace and security.

Residents of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku now look forward to a renewed era of stability and have appealed to the federal government to maintain security presence to prevent any resurgence of violence.
