The Federal High Court has introduced a freedom of information desk to improve journalists’ and the general public’s access to court information.
Director of Information at the Federal High Court, Catherine Christopher, announced this initiative on Sunday, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
She emphasized the court’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“The court hereby announces the establishment and operationalisation of the freedom of information desk.
“The information/freedom of information desk has been created to serve as a central point for receiving inquiries from journalists and members of the public.
“Submitting letters, formal freedom of information requests, and related correspondence, providing guidance on accessing public records and information in line with the Freedom of Information Act,” Christopher said.

She added that the freedom of information desk is staffed with trained personnel, dedicated to assisting individuals and organizations seeking information about the court’s activities.
“This new initiative aims to promote open communication and uphold the constitutional right to information,” she added.
The Freedom of Information Act, established in 2011, empowers citizens to access information held by public institutions, enhancing transparency and civic engagement in government.
