Abuja is buzzing with excitement as preparations for the much-anticipated Real Estate Football Championship are in full swing. Organized by sports enthusiast Sadiq Mahmud, this groundbreaking two-week tournament brings together 16 football clubs from various estates within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The championship, slated to kick off on February 12, 2024, promises to be a game-changer for young talents in the region.
Mahmud, the visionary behind this initiative, described the championship as a unique platform aimed at discovering and nurturing untapped football talents. Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, December 20, he emphasized that the competition seeks to create opportunities for young players to gain exposure and potentially launch their careers on the global stage.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by budding athletes, Mahmud lamented the lack of support and proper platforms that have long stifled the potential of many promising players. He expressed optimism that the championship would address these gaps, providing a much-needed boost for grassroots football in Abuja.
The event has already gained significant traction, with 12 out of the targeted 16 estate teams officially registered. Mahmud disclosed plans to expand the competition in subsequent editions, citing high demand for participation slots from other estate teams.
